Understanding disorders of the gastro-intestinal system first requires knowledge of anatomy and normal function. Onwards you’ll need to study the many ways the esophagus and stomach system can be affected by disease. Finally, you’ll learn how to integrate this knowledge of (ab)normal function and disease into a clinical approach of patients with clinical problems.

Part 1 : Anatomy & Physiology

The anatomy and basic physiology of the esophagus and stomach. Based on the anatomy and physiological principles of digestion, some diagnostic options have been included.

Part 2 : Diseases of the Esophagus and Stomach

Diseases are described through a standard list of properties.
General, Epidemiology, Symptoms, Risk factors, Cause, Diagnostics, Treatment, Prognosis, Caution.

Part 3 : Approach to the patient with complaints

Knowing a list of diseases does not fully prepare you for clinical practice, as patients usually present with symptoms or complaints, not diagnoses. Use your knowledge of anatomy, physiology and disease to determine your clinical strategy.
